D.C. to host 2027 NFL Draft

Good morning. Too many NFL franchises struggle year after year. Wolf Sports has launched a consulting firm to help NFL ownership identify franchise quarterbacks, high-level executives, and head coaches. With that, let’s dive into Wolf Sports Weekly.

šŸ›ļø 2027 NFL Draft to Washington

The White House announced—including President Trump along with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Commanders owner Josh Harris—that Washington, D.C. will host the 2027 NFL Draft.

  • The turnaround for Washington since the new ownership group took over a couple of years ago has been astonishing.

  • On-field success in 2024 aside, the Commanders are now seen as a respected franchise that can confidently host big events.

  • As mentioned last week, the franchise has a new stadium being built for the 2030 season.

  • The setting for the 2027 draft will be on the National Mall, an amazing location in the nation’s capital.

šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø What a time to be alive: Over the next few years, the United States will celebrate its 250th anniversary, have the 2026 MLB All-Star Game in Philadelphia for the 250th anniversary, host the 2026 World Cup, host the 2028 Olympics—and now hold the 2027 NFL Draft in Washington, D.C.

This week, we released our initial fantasy football redraft rankings for 2025, and below is a look at the top 10 players as things currently stand.

1. Saquon Barkley, PHI (RB1)
Barkley is coming off a monster campaign with 2,005 rushing yards and 15 total touchdowns, and his talent is too much to pass on in Philadelphia’s offense.

2. Jahmyr Gibbs, DET (RB2)
Gibbs was a complete force down the stretch for Detroit last year—averaging 24.3 touches and 165.5 total yards per game with eight total touchdowns over his final four outings (including playoffs).

3. Ja’Marr Chase, CIN (WR1)
A record-breaking extension keeps Chase locked in with the Bengals, and he will again provide week-winning upside after setting career-highs across the board in 2024.

4. CeeDee Lamn, DAL (WR2)
Lamb took a statistical step back last year without Dak Prescott for much of the season, but he still finished with a 101/1,194/6 line and remains the unquestioned focal-point of the Dallas offense.

5. Bijan Robinson, ATL (RB3)
Robinson started slow last year, but we saw him fully emerge down the stretch with Atlanta leaning on him—resulting in a season-long pace of 388 carries for 1,907 yards and 23 touchdowns after the Week 12 bye.

6. Justin Jefferson, MIN (WR3)
Jefferson is the all-time leader in receiving yards per game (96.5), and with Kevin O’Connell dialing things up, there is no reason to expect him to slow down this year with J.J. McCarthy under center.

7. Derrick Henry, BAL (RB4)
Another year, another season of King Henry being severely undervalued. All he did in his first season with the Ravens was rush for 1,921 yards and 16 touchdowns on a career-best 5.9 yards per carry.

8. Ashton Jeanty, LV (RB5)
Jeanty is 100% the real deal, and he landed in the perfect spot to immediately be a superstar fantasy producer with Pete Carroll and Chip Kelly wanting to run the ball at a high level.

9. Christian McCaffrey, SF (RB6)
There won’t be a player in the league more determined than McCaffrey to have a big season, and the last time we saw him healthy in 2023 led to 2,023 total yards and 21 total touchdowns.

10. Malik Nabers, NYG (WR4)
Nabers saw a whopping 170 targets in 15 games as a rookie, and improved quarterback play for New York can allow him to hit on the ceiling more frequently to match the consistent usage in Brian Daboll’s offense.

šŸ“ˆ Latest NFL power rankings

There’ll still be some movement before the season kicks off on September 4, but the post-draft NFL power rankings give a good look at where teams might stand in 2025. You can read the full power rankings here, but here’s the current arguable clear top-five—with a bunch of teams behind them looking to join that mix this season.

1. Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles did a nice job of replenishing what they lost in free agency, from under-the-radar edge signings in Azeez Ojulari and Joshua Uche to a draft class headlined by Alabama linebacker Jihaad Campbell and Texas safety Andrew Mukuba. The transition to new offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo will be something to watch in 2025.

2. Kansas City Chiefs
Ohio State offensive tackle Josh Simmons being available for the Chiefs at the end of the first round was probably not great for the rest of the league. He and 2024 second-rounder Kingsley Suamataia will look to develop into a formidable long-term blindside tackle-guard combination for Patrick Mahomes.

3. Buffalo Bills
It’s easy to be a fan of what the Bills did in the draft, adding productive SEC talent on defense with their first four picks. We know the defense getting stops against top teams and in critical postseason situations has held Buffalo back over the years, and hopefully the group makes an instant impact for a squad that also brought back former All-Pro cornerback Tre’Davious White.

4. Detroit Lions
The Lions feel like they had a draft class of guys that perfectly fit the culture established by Dan Campbell, including first-round defensive lineman Tyleik Williams—after the group was decimated on the interior late last season—and guard Tate Ratledge. The two coordinator changes could bring growing pains, but the roster for Detroit is in great shape.

5. Baltimore Ravens
We might look back and wonder how the Ravens were able to get Georgia safety Malaki Starks at No. 27 overall. The Baltimore secondary now has Starks, Kyle Hamilton, and Ar’Darius Washington on the backend, giving them the versatility to give defenses headaches. The cornerback group has great depth with 2024 fourth-rounder T.J. Tampa and veteran signing Chidobe Awuzie in the mix with Marlon Humphrey and Nate Wiggins.

šŸ“ Tucker release and contract news

The Ravens released five-time First-team All-Pro K Justin Tucker, calling it a ā€œfootball decisionā€ despite recent off-field accusations.

The Vikings agreed to a one-year, $23 million extension with LB Andrew Van Ginkel after a stellar first year in Minnesota which included 11.5 sacks and two defensive touchdowns.

Veteran moves from last week include the Bills adding WR Elijah Moore, the 49ers signing veteran OT D.J. Humphries, and K Matt Gay signing with the Commanders. Also, the Patriots released longtime LS Joe Cardona.
