Special teams impact

The NFL has delivered so far this season, with a Week 3 that included a potential Super Bowl LX preview and a few crazy endings.

šŸˆ Special teams headline Week 3

Week 3 of the 2025 NFL season included big impacts on special teams. The Eagles blocked two FGs in their comeback win against the Rams—including a game-sealer on a would-be game-winner that was blocked and taken to the house by monstrous DT Jordan Davis, who hit a top speed of 18.59 MPH (the fastest of any ball-carrier over 300 pounds since at least 2017) and also played a fantastic game on defense. In the victory, QB Jalen Hurts turned it on with four total TDs to erase a slow start, and the connection with A.J. Brown (6/109/1) also got going.

The Browns stunned the Packers in a defensive battle, scoring 13 unanswered points capped by a blocked FG in the final minute that was turned into them getting into FG range for a game-winning kick by Andre Szmyt. Cleveland shut down Green Bay’s run game, and QB Jordan Love threw a very costly interception late in the fourth quarter up seven points.

Another last-minute score won it for the Bucs, as the Jets took a blocked FG for a TD with two minutes remaining to come back from 17 points down to take the lead—but this one didn’t end with the FG block team getting the win after Tampa drove for a game-winning FG by Chase McLaughlin. The Buccaneers now have three last-minute wins in three weeks—and WR Chris Godwin Jr. and OT Tristan Wirfs could make their season debuts this Sunday against the Eagles.

Also at 3-0 with no turnovers are the Bills and the… Colts. Buffalo held on to beat a Miami squad that battled on Thursday night, while Indy started with a pick-six by Kenny Moore II and didn’t look back while again riding QB Daniel Jones (255 total yards, one TD) and RB Jonathan Taylor (102 rushing yards, three TD) to victory against the Titans.

The Lions defeated the Ravens, 38-30, in a highly anticipate Monday Night Football matchup to cap Week 3. Detroit had an awesome 18-play scoring drive in the first half and controlled the line of scrimmage with 218 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns by Sonic and Knuckles, RBs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery—while the defense sacked Lamar Jackson seven times.

ā¬‡ļø Player updates

Unfortunately, Week 3 brought more big injury news, including 49ers star DE Nick Bosa being done for the season due to a torn ACL (the second of his career) and Cardinals RB James Conner suffering a very bad ankle injury that ends his season. Also out for the season: Browns OT Dawand Jones (knee), Buccaneers G Cody Mauch (knee), Chargers RB Najee Harris (Achilles).

Buccaneers DT Calijah Kancey (pectoral) could potentially return for the postseason.

More injuries: Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb (high-ankle sprain, out at least two games) and G Tyler Booker (high-ankle sprain, four-to-six weeks) Ravens DT Nnamdi Madubuike (neck, timeline uncertain), Chargers EDGE Khalil Mack (elbow, out a few weeks), Buccaneers OT Luke Goedeke (foot, out at least three more games on IR), Broncos LB Dre Greenlaw (quad, out at least three more games on IR), Falcons CB A.J. Terrell (hamstring, week-to-week), Cardinals CB Garrett Williams (knee, will return this season), Vikings RB Aaron Jones (hamstring, out at least three more games), Giants RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. (shoulder, two-to-four weeks), Colts CB Kenny Moore II (calf, out a couple of weeks), Panthers TE Ja’Tavion Sanders (high-ankle sprain, out multiple games).

Recent veteran signings include LB Ja’Whaun Bentley (Steelers), DE Preston Smith and S Darnell Savage (Commanders), DE Clelin Ferrell (Chargers), CB Mike Hilton (Colts). Meanwhile, the Falcons released K Younghoe Koo.

šŸ“° Everything else in the NFL

Veteran WR Mohamed Sanu officially retired from the NFL.

Falcons coaching changes: OC Zac Robinson will move from the press box to on the field to call plays, while the team fired WR coach Ike Hilliard.

Official: The Commanders will build their new stadium in Washington, D.C.

Rams HC Sean McVay tore his plantar fascia while celebrating during the Rams’ Week 2 win.

The NFL has a new partnership creating licensed Crocs for each team.

Waivers can be a huge help in fantasy football, and this week’s Consigliere Corner hits on our top five claims for Week 4.

1. Trey Benson, ARI RB
Benson will undoubtedly be the most popular waiver add of the week with James Conner (ankle) done for the season—and he steps into a great spot for an Arizona team that isn’t afraid to play through the running backs. Consider him at least a low-end RB2/FLEX option the rest of the way.

2. Braelon Allen, NYJ RB
Breece Hall has struggled in back-to-back games since a big opener, so the door is at least cracked open for Allen to emerge. Last week, the bruising runner showed his power on eight touches for 47 yards, and especially at 0-3, the Jets might not hesitate to get him more involved moving forward.

3. Brian Robinson Jr., SF RB
Christian McCaffrey looking like Christian McCaffrey limits the standalone appeal for Robinson, but we’ll continue to have him ranked highly based on the handcuff upside. Plus, it’s notable that Robinson flashed with a 19-yard run on one of his two attempts in Week 3.

4. Isaiah Likely, BAL TE
Likely (foot) didn’t play last night, but it sure seems like this Sunday—for a huge matchup versus Kansas City—is the time for him to make his season debut. Although we can probably expect a snap count, Likely had a 9/111/1 line against the Chiefs last year in the opener.

5. Marvin Mims Jr., DEN WR
Other than a 23-yard touchdown in Week 2, Mims has been very quiet with a combined six receptions for 40 yards through three games. However, he could have had two more deep touchdowns with a couple of connections that were just missed, and Denver might be wise to get him more involved to spark the offense.
