👋 Good morning! Let’s jump right in with a few extensions—including one very surprising one—from the past week.
🔒 Locked in
Reigning NFL MVP Matthew Stafford signed a one-year extension with the Rams, keeping him under contract through the 2027 season.
The deal is for $55 million and can be worth up to $60 million—making it two years and up to $105 million remaining on his deal with Los Angeles. He’ll be 40 years old when the contract is up, and the question is if this is his last deal before the Rams turn the reigns over to first-round pick Ty Simpson at QB.
The Lions extended All-Pro LB Jack Campbell on a huge four-year, $81 million deal which makes him the highest-paid off-ball LB in the league. It’s not long ago that the “consensus” hammered the Lions for taking Campbell (and RB Jahmyr Gibbs, who will soon get a monster extension, earlier that round) as their Round 1 selections in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Now to the stunner: The Giants extended the contract of GM Joe Schoen, quietly announcing the move with a blunt statement and little fanfare. No question—as the offseason moves indicate—it’s now HC John Harbaugh’s show in New York, but it’s still a shocker that someone with Schoen’s track record—including by far the lowest GM grade in the recent NFLPA survey—was extended.
🤦♂️ Chiefs star Rashee Rice in jail
After violating his probation via a positive marijuana test, Chiefs WR Rashee Rice is currently in jail serving a 30-day sentence.
Rice is serving the 30 days in the Dallas County Jail.
On top of that, just a week before being ordered to serve this time, Rice underwent clean-up surgery on his knee.
So, Rice was going to miss OTAs and mandatory minicamp due to the knee procedure anyway—but now he’s rehabbing while in jail. Not ideal!
Rice is scheduled to be released on June 16.
👀 Future Super Bowl and Draft official
It’s official: Nashville will host Super Bowl LXIV in February 2030.
The Titans’ New Nissan Stadium is currently under construction and set to open for the 2027 NFL season.
In its third season, it’ll host the Big Game—with a massive party atmosphere set in Nashville.
The next four Super Bowl host cities are set: Los Angeles, Atlanta, Las Vegas, and Nashville.
The 2028 NFL Draft is also locked in as expected, with Minnesota announced as the host.
📰 News from OTAs
“This is it.” First the biggest—though expected—news from last week: Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers confirmed that 2026 will be his final NFL season.
Teams were already back on the field for voluntary OTAs, with a highlight being this sick catch by new Giants TE Isaiah Likely, who came over from Baltimore with John Harbaugh.
Bengals QB Joe Burrow says he thinks this is the most talented team he’s been on in Cincy, and (when asked) agreed he can break the franchise single-season record for TDs.
Giants DL Roy Robertson-Harris tore his Achilles during an OTA workout last week, likely ending his 2026 season.
After the week, Giants QB Jaxson Dart introduced President Trump at a rally in New York. Teammate Abdul Carter initially criticized his QB but then walked it back after saying they talked.
