😎 July 28 has been a date to look forward to on the NFL calendar, as rookies and veterans for all 32 teams will be in the building to report to training camp by the end of the day. But one player not happy is Buccaneers star DL Vita Vea, who has requested a trade given no new contract.

Perhaps the most important report of the past week is that Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes was “cleared to fully participate” in training camp coming off a torn ACL suffered last December. Kansas City gets plenty of work in for their starters during the summer under HC Andy Reid, so even if we don’t see him in preseason action with other key players, Mahomes is well on track to be ready for a matchup versus the Broncos in Week 1.

Giants WR Malik Nabers is also trending in the right direction by avoiding placement on the PUP list as he makes his way back from a torn ACL. There has been uncertainty about Nabers dating back to last year, so while avoiding the list doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be ready for the opener—it’s better than the alternative and will allow him to do more than simply work with trainers to begin camp.

Unfortunately, we already saw a starter go down to start camp in Carolina, as Panthers EDGE Nic Scourton tore his ACL and was placed on season-ending IR. The 2025 second-round pick showed promise with 5.0 sacks as a rookie, and Carolina also took a hit on offense with standout OT Taylor Moton being placed on the NFI list after he was diagnosed with a blood clot that will lead to missed time in the regular season.

The Lions’ star duo of S Brian Branch and S Kerby Joseph both landed on the PUP list at the start of camp. Branch is expected to be out deep into the season after a torn Achilles suffered in 2025, but Joseph previously tweeted that he would avoid the list and has since posted that his knee is “not too good.”

For the defending champion Seahawks, second-year S Nick Emmanwori was a surprise name on the PUP list as he recovers from ankle surgery, and HC Mike Macdonald wouldn’t say whether Emmanwori will be ready for the opener.

Former Chiefs and Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill says he has “no power” in his leg after a devastating knee injury suffered early last season—but he also expressed optimism about a return by saying his timeline is looking “real good right now.”

The 49ers announced that HC Kyle Shanahan was involved in a car accident earlier this month and will be limited to begin training camp as he recovers. The injuries for Shanahan were significant with a few broken bones, 40 stitches in his face, and a severe concussion, so it sounds fortunate that it wasn’t any more serious than it actually was. Assistant HC Chris Foerster is running camp with Shanahan on the mend.

Cardinals QB Jacoby Brissett agreed to a restructured one-year deal worth $15.5 million with a chance to earn up to $21 million. The news locks in Arizona’s starter after he was seeking a new contract all offseason, and he has Gardner Minshew II and third-round pick Carson Beck behind him on the depth chart.

The Dolphins extended linebacker Jordyn Brooks with a three-year, $51.3 million deal. There was talk when a new regime came in and drafted LB Jacob Rodriguez in the second round that Brooks could be a trade candidate, but they instead view him as a core piece like RB De’Von Achane is on offense.

Also, the Ravens waived undrafted rookie QB Diego Pavia before the start training camp, so the Heisman finalist will try to get a shot elsewhere.

The first official renderings of the Chiefs’ future home were revealed, and it will be an enclosed stadium set to open in 2031. Frankly, this is a disappointment in our opinion with Kansas City giving us some memorable cold-weather games over the years, so we will have to enjoy it while we can over the next five seasons as more and more teams move away from open-air fields.

The Panthers are renovating Bank of America Stadium, which will remain an outdoor stadium based on new-look renderings.

On the uniform front, the Rams released their classic looks with two new “simple” designs, and the Bills announced their “Nickel City” alternate uniforms for 2026.
