2025 NFL Combine Week šØ

NFL news never stops, with the Combine this week ahead of the start of the new league year next month. The 2025 NFL Scouting Combine is this Thursday-Sunday, with the on-field drills as follows:
Thursday, 3 PM ET: Defensive Linemen / Linebackers
Friday, 3 PM ET: Defensive Backs / Tight Ends
Saturday, 1 PM ET: Quarterbacks / Wide Receivers / Running Backs
Sunday, 1 PM ET: Offensive Linemen
Not participating: Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders, Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty, and Penn State DE Abdul Carter (shoulder)
š° NFL salary cap: more money
The 2025 NFL salary cap is projected to fall in the range of $277.5 million to $281.5 million, another huge increase from last seasonās $255.4 million. The final cap number is pending an agreement between the league and the NFLPA, but the cap will have increased by over $50 million over this year and last. With the NFLās growth, a $300 million cap looks likely for 2026.
International games have played a role in the NFLās cap increases, and it was revealed that the Chargers will be hosting the second Week 1 Friday game in Brazil. Seven teams have now been designated as home teams for 2025 international games across Brazil, Germany, Spain, Ireland, and England.

Money matters: Rams QB Matthew Stafford has been granted permission to speak to other teams about his value. Rumors have been swirling around the 37-year-old early this offseason, but this ultimately might just be a measuring stick for the Rams to determine what they need to pay Stafford. That said, Stafford is reportedly seeking over $50 million per year on a new contractāand LA might feel they can get another option at the gameās most important position at a much lower salary.
More money moves: Both Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin and Vikings CB Byron Murphy II pushed back the void dates on their contacts to have more time to negotiate with their current teams. Now neither player can be franchise tagged this year.

š Player news: Zack Martin retires
Cowboys G Zack Martin retired from the NFL after 11 seasons.
Martin was a first-round pick of Dallas in 2014āwhich was the Johnny Manziel draft, when Jerry Jones strongly considered taking the Heisman-winning quarterback out of Texas A&M.
Instead, the Cowboys opted for Martin, who went on to become a seven-time First-team All-Pro selectionāthe same number of holding penalties he was called for in his tremendous career.
Martin was a member of the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team and will almost certainly make the Pro Football Hall of Fame on the first ballot.
More retirements: S Keanu Neal, who was a key member of the 2016 Falconsā Super Bowl LI appearance (and had 13 tackles in that loss), retired after eight seasons. Neal said āGod has blessed my family and I in so many ways,ā in a statement. And G Jon Feliciano retired after 10 NFL seasons but is leaving the door open for a late-season return in 2025.
New contracts: The Chargers signed S Elijah Molden to a three-year extension, and Panthers QB Andy Dalton re-signed with the team.
Players released in the past week:
Panthers: LB Shaq Thompson (who was the only remaining member from the teamās 2015 Super Bowl run), CB Dane Jackson
Patriots: LB Sione Takitaki
Browns: S Juan Thornhill
NFL offseason surgery news: Eagles OLB Nolan Smith (torn triceps from the Super Bowl victory and played through it) and C Cam Jurgens (back) are both expected to be ready for 2025, and Browns OT Dawand Jones (arthroscopic knee surgery) is set to be good for training camp.

We have a long NFL offseason ahead with plenty of player movement and changes to come. But looking ahead at early 2025 NFL MVP odds, there are some potential values to keep in mind. Odds are via FanDuel Sportsbook.
Eagles QB Jalen Hurts (+1700)
Health cooperating, Jalen Hurts is as good of a bet as anyone to rush for 15 touchdowns next season. If Hurts sees an uptick in passing production and can throw for 25 or so touchdowns, heād undoubtedly be sitting near the top of the MVP race with 40+ total touchdowns for whatās again projected to be among the best teams in the league. The Eagles quarterback just added a Super Bowl MVP to his mantle, and heās been in the regular season MVP discussion throughout his career.
Lions QB Jared Goff (+2500)
As former Lions offensive coordinator and new Bears head coach Ben Johnson said, Detroitās offense is basically a machine and will keep operating at a high level without him there. The players Jared Goff has at his disposalāJahmyr Gibbs, David Montgomery, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Sam LaPortaābehind an elite offensive line should lead to more big numbers. Johnson being gone might be baked into these +2500 odds, but Goff just finished as an MVP finalist and would probably get a boost (because people currently think the Lions could take a step back) with a repeat campaign.
Cowboys QB Dak Prescott (+4000)
Similarly, the Cowboys have some changesāthough bigger, with the head man changing from Mike McCarthy to Brian Schottenheimer. That, paired with Dak Prescott coming off a serious hamstring injury, play a big role in these +4000 odds for a player who finished second in the 2023 NFL MVP voting. The NFC East hasnāt had a repeat champion in 20 years, so maybe the Eagles do take a step back while the Cowboys reclaim the division with Dak leading the way. Dallas adding more firepower would help.
Broncos QB Bo Nix (+6000)
The Broncos are certainly adding more firepower this spring, and second-year quarterback Bo Nix will benefit. Nix had some highlight-reel moments as a rookie, and he already put up big numbers with 34 total touchdowns (third-most by a rookie in NFL history). And remember, this will be Nixās first time since before college that heās had the same play-caller for two straight years. Vegas is discounting the immense upside for a guy that takes care of the ball and can put up a great touchdown/turnover ratio in Year 2.
49ers RB Christian McCaffrey (+15000)
The +15000 odds tell the story of this being unlikely, but why not an MVP campaign for a highly determined Christian McCaffrey if the 49ers bounce back as a top team? Deebo Samuel is on his way out of San Francisco, which could lead to McCaffrey still getting a very heavy workloadāKyle Shanahan has always made it clear that getting CMC the ball is good for the team, and McCaffrey himself hates leaving the field. Ultimately, a ton must go right, but +15000 is surprising for someone who easily could have won MVP a couple of season ago.
