The NFL playoffs are set!

šŸˆ Wild Card Weekend set after Week 18

The final week of the NFL regular season was headlined by the Lions pulling away from the Vikings to clinch the NFC North and the NFCā€™s top seed, the Buccaneers winning their fourth straight NFC South title, and the Broncos securing the final AFC playoff spot by dominating a resting KC squad.

With that, Wild Card Weekend from Saturday-Monday is set with games across CBS, Prime Video, FOX, NBC, and ESPN/ABC:

While the Jets, Saints, and Bears already had openings, just two more head coaches were fired following the end of the regular seasonā€”and in both cases, the front offices currently remain in tact.

Names to watch: Former Patriots LB and former Titans HC Mike Vrabel is an undoubted leading candidate to take over in New England, while Lions OC Ben Johnson is interviewing with both the Patriots and Bears. Chicago is also requesting an interview with Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy, who is under contract with Dallas until January 14.

In a stunner, the Giants announced that they are keeping both HC Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen in 2025. But thereā€™s an obvious ultimatum, with team owner John Mara saying ā€œit better not take longā€ for the team to improve:

The Colts are also retaining GM Chris Ballard after questions over his job security.

While there might not be as many head coach openings as expected, assistant coaches have been hit very hard this year:

āœļø More NFL news and notes

Injury news from the past week:

Also, Deshaun Watson had a setback in his recovery from a torn Achilles, putting his 2025 status in question.

ā€œIā€™m out bro.ā€ Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill says he doesnā€™t want to play for the team and wants to go elsewhere.

49ers RB Christian McCaffrey (knee) says heā€™s close to fully recovered and expects to be ready for OTAs.

Recent veteran moves: The Cowboys moved on from RB Ezekiel Elliott for the second time, and he signed with the Chargers practice squad; the Lions released S Jamal Adams from the practice squad; and the Patriots waived DE Yannick Ngakoue.

The 2025 Pro Bowl rosters were announced, led by the Ravens with nine selections.

The 2025 NFL Draft order for the non-playoff teams is set, with the Titans, Browns, and Giants in the top three:

This weekā€™s Consigliere Corner jumps into our very early top five in 2025 fantasy football drafts.

1. Eagles RB Saquon Barkley
Coming off the ninth 2,000-yard rushing season in NFL history, thereā€™s no reason to believe a massive fall off is coming for Saquon Barkley next season. Heā€™s turning just 28 years old next month, and his rare home-run ability is a perfect match behind Philadelphiaā€™s elite offensive lineā€”leading to a bunch of touchdown runs where heā€™s not even getting contacted. Disappointed he didnā€™t get an opportunity to break the single-season rushing record in Week 18, Barkley is probably going to take another crack at it next season.

2. Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs
The upside/floor combination of Jahmyr Gibbs will undoubtedly him a very enticing option atop 2025 fantasy drafts. Playing on a team like the Lions is a major plus, as they go hard every week (as evidenced by their Week 17 effort in a game that they could have rested) and are less prone to duds as a unit than other teams might be. And with David Montgomery (knee) out over the final three games, we saw the overall RB1 upside for Gibbs with fantasy point totals of 23.4, 24.3, and 43.5; while Montgomery will be a factor, thereā€™s enough to go around in Detroit.

3. Falcons RB Bijan Robinson
Bijan Robinson had a similar scorching finish to 2024, with two touchdowns in each of his final three games for a Falcons squad that was competing for a playoff spot. The former No. 8 overall pick was very good as a rookie and became great in Year 2; another step forward is attainable for this seasonā€™s RB4.

4. Bengals WR Jaā€™Marr Chase
Fresh off the triple crown, Jaā€™Marr Chase will get consideration atop fantasy drafts this summer with a real shot at a repeat of his epic 127/1,708/17 line. The Bengals have made it clear they are going to get Chase the ball, including by moving him around the formation to put him in favorable spots. And the chemistry Chase has with his longtime quarterback Joe Burrow is arguably unmatched right now.

5. Ravens RB Derrick Henry
You can make a case for several guys here, but weā€™ll include Derrick Henry for now to just indicate that heā€™s built different and we donā€™t see him taking a big step back even at 31/32 years old next season. People have been calling for a Henry fall off for years, ignoring that heā€™s a remarkable talent that goes to extreme measures to take care of his body. Henry should have a tremendous floor as an RB1 option in 2025, with the ceiling to again be among the NFLā€™s leading rushers.
